the pleated poppy

January 14, 2015

it's wednesday yet again. if you've been poking your head around the blog world for the last six years, i'd be surprised if you haven't stumbled into lindsey from the pleated poppy.  i met her a few years ago in san diego at the queen bee market.  she is just as cute in person as she is online!

this mom of three runs a blog, managed a shop full of handmade goodies, runs twice-a-year boutiques in her hometown of san luis obispo, california and is the organizer of "what i wore wednesday". she recently put her shop on the back burner to focus more on her family, but her blog and "what i wore wednesday" still get tons of traffic. the hashtag #wiww... yah. that's her. i also love her because she refuses to use capital letters like me. (my excuse is i just discovered the caps lock button on my iPhone.)

without more of my rambling... here's lindsey!

when did you begin blogging and why?

i began blogging in '07 - almost 8 years ago! i had 2 toddler girls and was expecting my third - a boy. blogging seemed like a fun way to connect with our far away family and other stay-at-home mommy friends.

why did you start What I Wore Wednesdays?

after several years of being a stay-at-home mom (i wasn't working yet), i realized i rarely got dressed. and when i did, it was usually into sweats - yikes! so i decided it was time for a change and nothing motivates like posting embarrassing pictures of yourself! so i posted all my outfits - the good, the bad, and the still in my husband's pi's. eventually, i progressed to getting dressed every day, which made me feel better about myself, and my husband took notice of ;) over the years i have been able to focus my style a bit more, while still trying fun new things. i have learned what works for my body type, and definitely what doesn't!

where do you find your outfits?

i shop mostly at target, forever 21, and old navy. every once in awhile i find clearance items at banana republic and other stores, but i generally stick to the inexpensive stores. and i will wear the same clothes for years and years.

what inspires you?

anthropologie is like a shot of inspiration in the arm. i walk into that store and wander in amazement at the creativity that has gone not only into the beautiful products, but the design and decor. i rarely buy anything there because i'm too busy looking at the walls and ceiling rather than whats actually on the racks!

who are your favorite bloggers to follow?

i love Vintage Revivals. that girl is crazy creative and makes crafty look awesome. i also love Jones Design Company. emily's style is clean and classic and so so pretty.

what's your favorite Etsy/ handmade shop?

well, BOP of course! but lisa leonard has been a friend for years and i have more pieces of her jewelry than i dare count! i also love Blue Corduroy for her amazing knit hats for both kids & adults. i love knowing the person and story behind handmade products, and i love supporting handmade after 6 years of owning my own shop.

what is the most recent book you've read?

i have never been much of a reader as an adult, but this year i have read a handful of great books: the read aloud hand book by jim release, the nesting place by myquillyn smith, the hardest peace by kara tippetts, and i'm currently reading the meaning of marriage.

favorite form of social media and why?

instagram, hands down. its positive and happy and full of inspiration and encouragement!

be sure to stop by lindsey's blog and say hello! especially today... it's what i wore wednesday. i think i need to go get out of my pajamas and get inspired.

have a happy day!

and don't forget to enter our nest egg for the new year giveaway!!
